Liposuction

A local or general anaesthetic can be used for liposuction.

Depending on the anaesthetic you could be advised not to eat or drink anything from the night before surgery.

With liposuction some smaller areas may be preformed in the consultant’s clinic, but larger areas are normally. preformed in a hospital.

The procedure in liposuction consists of a small incision around an inch in length.

These incisions are made around the area of fatty tissues that need to be removed.

A hollow suction that is called a cannula will be placed inside the incision between the Skin and the Fatty Tissues.

The cannula will be moved in a fan like motion under the skin.

This procedure breaks down the unwanted fat cells.

These broken down fat cells are then removed by a vacuum pump.

The overlying skin will remain attached to the connective tissues and underneath the muscles during the procedure.

A very thin layer of fat is left under the skin.

This layer of fat is left to help any bumpy or dimples occurring after the liposuction and recovery.

Liposuction is a Cosmetic Surgery procedure has improved over the years.

Techniques have given a less sever procedure with quicker and remarkable results.

There are different procedures in Cosmetic Liposuction Surgery.

One technique is the lignocaine (an anaesthetic) and adrenaline.

This is a solution that contracts the blood vessels to help stop the bleeding.

These combined are injected into the fatty area before they are vacuumed out.

The procedure helps removable the unwanted fat more easily and reduces any blood loss.

It also helps with any bruising and provides a local anaesthetic.

Because it acts as an anaesthetic it reduces any pain that may occur during and after the treatment.

After liposuction the incisions are stitched up.

With some liposuction procedures a drainage tube may be needed for the first day.

This tube is to help and prevent any fluid building up.

What is the Recovery Period After Liposuction?

After Liposuction you may go home as you are treated as an out patient if the procedure has been preformed in the clinic and not in the hospital.
